The fat girl, gay guy, cheerleader, jock-all in a class that is the alternative to expulsion from high school. The book ALT:ED written by Catherine Atkins and published September 9th, 2004. The main character is Susan Callaway, bullied and over weight Susan faces the tortures of high school. Enduring torment from her bully Kale Krasner about her weight. Atkins managed to make her book a lot like modern-day Breakfast Club ( a film released February 15th, 1985) both "stories" basically have the same plot. ALT:ED should only be read by older readers, preferably fourteen and old. Mainly because it does have some mature content, swearing and mature topics. The book is an enjoyable read!

Susan's best friend, her rock. Slater is gay and is bullied very badly about it. He doesn't let it affect him, he really influenced Susan to talk in group which is something she has always avoided. Mr. Roy Duffy, an over weight man who made all of these odd and quite frankly messed up kids sit in a room together, and talk. By the end all the kids were thankful for his class, the counselling group was beneficial.The students had to discuss the consequences of their actions and counsel others with different problems.
