1. The stated purpose of this course is the preliminary exploration of strategic leadership. This course also studies the problem solving process and the skills of a reflective praxisioner. The rational for the course is the abstract nature of leadership and more specifically strategic leadership (Johnson, 2015). This course seeks to transform a practitioners thinking and complicate that thinking. It seeks to blend art and science, the abstract and the concrete. Too often schools use data that is not really significant. Berliner has a legitimate argument that averages can often be misleading (Berliner, 2001). I believe that we have to look deeper into data to paint an accurate picture of our schools and the learning process. Bernhardt in her article on Multiple Measures, argues that we must use demographics, perceptions, student learning and school processes to see the whole picture (Bernhardt, 1998). I have witnessed that data does not always lead to improvement. “When we focus only on student learning measures, we see school personnel using their time figuring out how to look better on the student learning measures. We want school personnel to use their time figuring out how to be better for all students (Berhardt,
