Danforth and Kim challenge two metaphors surrounding ADHD, and provide evidence to show how incorrect societies’ point of view can be. Their arguments show how the lack of education spreads negative notions and judgment about ADHD. Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions surrounding ADHD. As a community, we struggle to make sense of how this disorder starts when there is little information about known causes. In a school setting, ADHD not only effects the person with the disorder, but also the school itself. In the past decade, an immense amount of research has been conducted at various labs and facilities in hopes to find out the mystery behind this disorder. Metaphors can be used for scientific research, but also should help teachers when interacting with students effected with ADHD in a school setting. The authors state, “ADHD is the subject of great contention in the USA.” They touch on two different metaphors about the brains control on the body. Barkley is an author that has written many pieces of work about ADHD, and in this journal article, Danforth and Kim challenge many of his thoughts and ideas. ADHD is a disorder that should not be defined by using metaphorical language. People with ADHD have a difficult time fitting into social norms. Society needs to become informed and support friends and family that are affected by this disorder, instead of bringing people down with negative metaphors. Sadly, metaphors are used by teachers in the classroom and hinders learning. The journal, Tracing the Metaphors of ADHD: a preliminary analysis with implications for inclusive education, provides ways to avoid metaphors and not have the mind set that medication is the only answer. With all these articles in mind, I believe there is enough research to support my decision to write my paper about
