ADHD is a disorder that should not be defined by using metaphorical language. People with ADHD have a difficult time fitting into social norms. Society needs to become informed and support friends and family that are affected by this disorder, instead of bringing people down with negative metaphors. Sadly, metaphors are used by teachers in the classroom and hinders learning. The journal, Tracing the Metaphors of ADHD: a preliminary analysis with implications for inclusive education, provides ways to avoid metaphors and not have the mind set that medication is the only answer.
