For my research purposes, I will be focusing mostly on the chapter “Are Drugs the Answer?” On page 283. Here, the author describes the type of medications used to treat children with ADD and ADHD and the medication’s side effects. The author continues on to encourage drugs as to be the “Last resort” when treating children with ADD and ADHD for all of the harmful effects caused by the drugs. Many children do not respond well, while others can suffer terrible side effects. Even if the drugs are doing the job, parents just aren’t comfortable with putting their child on such harmful medication. Some times, the medication will work for some of the day and then rebound laster to make symptoms worse. And many times the drugs don’t even solve all of the problems. These drugs don’t treat the true cause whether their working correctly or not. Only put your child on drugs once every other possibility has been explored. It will take time to find the true cause of your child having to suffer from ADD and ADHD, but it will be worth it in the end since you won’t have to put your child on harmful medication. It is concerning that people seek the quick-fix that Ritalin provides, but unfortunately, many people see the symptoms disappear and than they think that the problem is
