As a Christian it is our duty according to the Great Commission in Matthew 28:16 to spread the Gospel (ESV). Yet, the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics states that counselors are not to impose their values upon their clients (2014). The American Association of Christian Counselors sums it up best by saying that counselors should “expose” not “impose” their beliefs upon clients (2014). This statement gives the Christian counselor permission to share the Gospel in a way that is not intimidating or imposing on the values, rights, or beliefs of others.
