On July 18th, 2017, session begin in the family room of the family home. Five minutes into the session, the lead therapist was sitting on the couch going over the binder with the therapist, both the lead therapist and therapist where turned away from Aiden and not engaging him (Antecedent). Aiden then hit (open hand) lead on the arm (Behavior), leaving a red mark on her arm lasting 7 seconds. Mom makes a surprise or upset facial expression. The lead therapist proceeded to ignore Aiden and the therapist prompted Aiden to say, “Dominique (lead therapist)” (Consequence) to appropriately get her attention. On July 18th, thirty minutes into session, the clinical team, Aiden, and Ms. Islas transitioned from playing in the backyard to the family room of the family home(Antecedent). Aiden hit his therapist, then his mother (Ms. Islas) with an open hand, on the arm (Behavior), leaving a red mark on her arm lasting 7 seconds. Mom makes a surprise or upset facial expression. Therapist quickly blocked Aiden’s next attempts to hit them for a second time, while trying to keep their distance(Consequence). The clinical team reinforced Aiden as he calmed down. Once Aiden was calm, he was prompted to ask for more time to play in the backyard (i.e. “I want backyard please”), he complied and was reinforced with playing in the backyard. See Figure 2.
