Following my undergraduate academic career, I accepted a full-time positon at the University of California, Santa Barbara as the assistant to the executive director of Community Housing Authority. In addition to my duties as the BAP and CHA Assistant, I managed the real estate files, web development, and marketing materials for the faculty housing project. Following the end of my employment, I focused on preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test from June 2015 through January 2016. From my education, I have learned how inter-related the human body is. Therefore, it is vital to find the underlying cause of an illness first. I believe prevention is important in increasing longevity and quality of life. I discovered osteopathic medicine through my family members and by observing a local osteopathic physician, Dr. Dillon Tran. Dr. Tran discussed how his specialty has helped improve the quality of life for his patients. Moreover, I was able to see how Dr. Tran incorporated holistic care by encouraging his patients to exercise and make healthy lifestyle changes. I hope to integrate holistic care to my local community in the future. Because of the language and cultural barriers present, I aim to improve communication to better serve my community. Since many residents in my community are immigrants, they often request for alternative remedies and therapies instead of medications. My goal is to be able to fulfill my community’s needs and help provide the best care; I believe osteopathic medicine will help me succeed in accomplishing this
