Eerie and inconceivable, Writer's Block is a short film that makes you question the human psyche and the inner struggle every writer goes through. This 13-minute film, which was directed by Brandon Polanco and written by him and Spenser Granese, came to life in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy hit. The storm temporarily ceased production of the film, "Cold Comes the Night," starring Bryan Cranston who is best known for his roles in "Malcom in the Middle" and "Breaking Bad. " While the crew waited for production to resume, Cranston devised a contest where the film's production assistants had to create a script and submit it to him.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

My first experience with writers’ block proved to be extremely nerve-wracking due to the reality that this assignment counted towards sixty percent of my grade, none of my previous solutions to writers’ block appeared to be productive, then there was the irony of my predicament, to write about writers’ block. I have learned throughout my many years of writing, and to many more years of writing, I will keep the tips and tricks of writing with me. One of the most key components I have seen about writing is to get all your thoughts down and just keep writing, not to get frustrated by writing. Anne Lamott notes in “Shitty First Drafts” that drafts are a dumping place, you just keep writing. “Just get it all down on the paper, because there may be something great in those six crazy pages that you would never have gotten to by more rational, grown-up means” (Lamott 528). If you get frustrated and stop you may never get the grade you have been working so hard for, or finish the book the editor has been waiting for you to send in.…
