In the science-fiction novel A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle, a young girl named Meg goes on a long journey through space and time to find her father. The book which is nonfiction focuses on the adventure that Meg, her little brother Charles-Wallace, and her friend Calvin go on to find Meg’s long lost father. They meet three women, Mrs. Who, Mrs Which, and Mrs. Whatsit who takes them to a far away galaxy where they have to rescue their father from a great evil. This adventurous story uses good characterization regarding Meg, Charles-Wallace, and Calvin. The story also does a good job in fully describing the setting and helping you to visualizing it, as well as a large use of personification
First, the book has good characterization in the traits and struggles of the three children in a way that they are relatable. In the book it says, “-It’s the weather on top of everything else. On top of me. On top of Meg Murry doing everything wrong.” Many people can relate to this feeling that they can’t do anything right and that anything they do will just end up in disaster for them. This helps people become attached with the characters and get more into the story. Another example from the text of characterization is, “The Medium lost the delighted smile she had

One thing the books says is, “The dark shadow was still there. It had not lessened or dispersed with the coming of the night. And where the was the stars were not visible.” The shadow is evil being personified. It says later that Earth is a “dark” planet because it has the dark thing over it. Another part in the book is, “The window rattled madly in the wind, and she pulled the quilt close around her.” This is showing personification towards the window. The book says that it is rattling madly which gives it sort of a crazed character to the window. In conclusion, there is a significant use of personification in the

Although majority of Harrison’s narration of trench warfare is described in chronological order, the description is given a sense of depth when the writing deviates from the sequence. For example, the writer describes a flashback to an event when he talks to veterans and reads newspaper reports. This gives depth because it gives insight to the characters current motivation and emotional state. Sense imagery paints a vivid portrait of a scene to develop the narrative with the use of words and in this case is used very effectively throughout the passage.…

Erik Larson is argued to have a difficult time creating realistic details for a book about a time period he could only research about. In The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses brilliantly constructed figurative language in order to insightfully display his interpretation of the story (entailing the events of the Chicago World Fair and the serial killer H. H. Holmes) and realistically and informatively describe the details of people, places, and events in the novel. The first figurative language tool that will be addressed is the simile. The first simile that is used to describe one of the main "characters" of Larson’s novel, Holmes, is “As he moved through the station, the glances of young women fell around him like wind-blown petals”…

For my first example of figurative language there is "He was a stocky man with big shoulders, the neck of a bull, thick lips, and curly hair"(Wiesel 47). This is a metaphor because it is helping it is saying that his neck is so big that it represents a bulls and it is not using like or as. It affects the reader because it helps them realize that he is a strong man and he was so big that his neck was as think and strong as a bull. The second figurative language is the "Who had a face not unlike the face of death"(Wiesel 51). This is a Hyperbole because it is an extreme exaggeration because he doesn't really have the face of death but they say that because he is so scary or intimidating.…

Personification is when human attributes are given to something non-human. Such as “I 'm tired of living with demons cause they always inviting more”. Demons are evil spirits or devils so the fact he gave them the attribute of “inviting more” made this personification. Cole uses this to show that he’s tired of dealing with problems and problematic people because they just create more problems for him. The last act of personification was “its beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success”.…

Truth and Reality are influenced by a person 's perceptions of the world. This is clear in Atonement as Robbie is accused of a heinous crime and both he and Cecilia suffer because Briony naïvely presumes she understands the complexities of adult relationships, and in an effort to protect her sister, she accuses Robbie of rape. A character is only able to perceive as much as he or she understands about the world, as his or her worldview is clouded by weakness and flaws.…
