"Racism couples the false assumption that race determines psychological and cultural traits with the belief that one race is superior to another." --A World of Difference project of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai Birth.
As I read the quote above, I find it to be well defined and simply put in context what I truly believe about racism. Racism is described as the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others, or, discrimination or prejudice based on race. . Racism is a human problem, one that we think we cannot control, but in reality we can control it but only to a certain extent. Sometimes racism can develop among people of different race because of the lack of knowledge about the other race culture, belief and history. Since little is known about the other race their behavior can be misinterpreted. Although you may not look at yourself as being raciest, you probably judge someone because of past experiences, and or you hold it against them. People, such as myself, that grew up with a different race around them tend to not be raciest against their race, and the race they grew up around. I tend not to be raciest against blacks and Caucasians, because I grew up with my cousins, and most of them are mixed, or black, for this reason I have seen both African Americans get discriminated on because they are a different skin color, and also I have seen Caucasians get discriminated against because of their skin color. Many people don’t realize that they are being raciest until after the damage is done, until after they hurt someone’s feelings, until after they physically, mentally and emotionally tortured that person.
The reason I think why there is racism is because it is human nature to try and better than another person for the mere fact of self-pleasure. Education can be a solution for racism. If children are taught not to be a racist in school in a young age they might not indulge in racism. Racism I think over time will become less and less of a problem and someday we as a nation will be able to get along in a peaceful, tranquil way. This might be a slow solution but the results is certain because in each generation the racism will decrement until it is
