From 1960 to the early 1970s the influx of married women workers accounted for almost half of the increase in the total labor force, and working wives were staying on their jobs longer before starting families.
The woman’s group is a group of women that work instead of men when men go to the war. Almost 400,000 women served the armed forces—a number that exceeded total male troop strength in 1939. During WWII, the role of women in the service and on the home front has expanded immensely. Women worked in nursing services, Air Force, Navy, Army, the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. During this period some trade unions serving traditionally male occupations like engineering began to admit women members.

Women volunteered in the Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureaux that researched the whereabouts of soldiers serving in Europe and sent word to their anxious families. Australian women also raised funds - over one-third, or almost £5 million pounds, of all monies donated in Australia over the four years of WWI to the patriotic funds.
The number of women on the home front, employment grew rapidly as people leave work to go to war and occupation, it is more open to women. The nature of war and the threat to Australia means there is more unity in the home front, however, tensions related to the role of women, and for many, the old attitudes and values are difficult to change.
Women also advanced to the agriculture. Volunteer force called the Australian Women's Land Army girls out of school to work on the farm: cows, milking, plowing harvest. They are important in maintaining the food supply in Australia.
