Prideful can be seen as overly confident or arrogant, but a literal definition states “a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.” Being proud means “feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one’s own achievements or qualities.” Obviously these definitions are dissimilar but the feeling you get inside is much more diverse. It is not always a bad thing to have a high opinion of yourself, but you cannot let it get to your head or effect the people around you. People should never feel ashamed for something they cannot do; they should feel proud that they tried. Trying new things can be tough but that’s when the feeling of being proud comes into play. Although it sounds funny, animals can also be proud. Police dogs often feel proud because they help find bodies or drugs, then they are awarded. Often times, I play fetch with my dogs or hide from them, then once they find me they start wagging their tales and bark.
