The Gift of Kindness

When one thinks about kindness what comes to mind? Maybe helping an elderly with something they can not do anymore or making somebody feel better when they are having a bad day. Whatever it is it is always something that is positive. Kindness is something that can change somebody’s feelings, it can help to create a better society, and it is also proven to improve one's health.
In the story “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children” there was a man who was found on the beachside face down with huge wings. The man that found him held him captive in his house, unable to barely move, for the day and then decided to keep the man locked inside of a cage for chickens. Nobody was ever kind to him, but yet they all wanted to see him perform some miracles to prove he was an angel. The people poked at him, picked feathers off of his wings, and some even threw stones at him. Finally when the people decided to get a iron for branding steers and brand the angel, he got up and ranted in his language, tearing from his eyes, and flapping his wings, they stopped. They realized what the angel did was not a rage of anger but of pain. After that the people were more careful to not annoy him to much. The angel then performed some miracles that were more like mocking, ruined the angel’s reputation “like the blind man who didn’t get his sight but grew three teeth, or the paralytic who didn’t get to walk but almost won the lottery”(Marquez 3). Maybe he was trying to perform the miracle fully, but he didn’t get as much kindness that he needed because everybody was being mean and
