Within both texts “Recycling Electronic Waste” by Harriet Rohmer and “A Universal Language: Futbol 4 Dreams” by Kathleen Wilson Shryock and Marcia Amidon Lusted, Alex and the Iribarne sister both tried to help others. Alex from “Recycling Electronic Waste” by Harriet Rohmer, Alex tried to recycle electronic e-waste because the e-waste is very harmful and contains lead which is very dangerous. The Iribarne sisters from A Universal Language: Futbol 4 Dreams” by Kathleen Wilson Shryock and Marcia Amidon Lusted, the Iribarne sisters wanted to help the kids who are refugee and doesn’t have any soccer ball. Since, this is very dangerous Alex had to do something, because he is worried that that the lead in the electronics can harm kids and children. According to the text it states “some irresponsible recycling companies don’t break down the e-waste and dispose of it safely themselves. Instead, they ship it overseas to countries such as China and Nigeria, where local environmental laws are not enforced and kids their age work at picking apart and burning e-waste (to get valuable metals) with no mask or other kinds of protection. After a while, these kids get very sick. “We checked carefully online to make sure the company we chose didn’t do this” Alex says.” Alex was very worried about the lead that the electronics has that people throw away, which can harm the children. So, he made sure that the company break down the e-waste and disposes it and that they didn’t send to China or Nigeria.
