The American dream is exactly as it’s worded, it’s just a dream. In the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he portrays the characters to be living a twisted version of the American dream. Fitzgerald uses the wealthy characters to show that people can have all their dreams come true but they also give up parts of themselves to do it. The characters have voids in their lives that they seem to ignore. The dream is lures people into a false sense of entitlement and makes them unaware of how much they relinquish.
