Acts 2:42-47
I. Intro
It was 1993, when television gained a new super hero. This super hero was unique and not like your ordinary super hero. Not like superman, batman, the incredible hulk, or the million dollar man. This superhero was not like a normal human, like Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne. This superhero was made when five earth saving youth bound together, act of community, a collective effort to rescue the earth from turmoil. Captain Planet was the superhero that came to mind when I read our text for today. You see, this show displayed five youth from across the globe who were given magic rings, four which controlled the elements of nature and one controlling the heart. In our being, we are made to be relational creatures, and in the book of Acts, Gods plan begins to become fully functional with the birth of the church. Throughout the New Testament scripture, there is no instances that I recall and servant of Christ being sent out into the world alone. Christ teaching over and over again emphasis the acceptance of Christ, and the joining of the Body of Christ.
In v.44 the writer Luke helps us understand that “All who believed were together and had all things in common.” This is a witness of the power of the Holy Spirit. People from different backgrounds and beliefs were renewed and united and became communal, focusing beyond themselves. What an amazing time that must have been. The wealthy and the poor in fellowship together, no little I and big you, but we are all one, in a community of Jesus Christ. The cares of one became the cares of the whole community. Selflessness
v.45 and they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceed to all, as any had need. Feeding off of their togetherness, all in the community began selling their belongings and making them available to those who were in need. What power must the Holy Spirit have, to join together those of various backgrounds and move the hearts of those to give of themselves, from all that they had to provide for the needs of the community. What a selfless act on the part of the community of believers in Acts to give out of the abundance to those who are in need.
The power of Christ, through his resurrection and the power of the Holy Spirit that lives inside us, moves the community of believers, THE CHURCH, to move beyond good talk, and sanctified ideas, to be wonderful stewards of what God has given to us. To give of one’s self. 100% of your being and assets to God, the God will direct and lead to the places where they are needed. God is indeed able to heal a corrupt humanity and build a community of different backgrounds, generations, social locations, and
