The Indian leader invited us to his village where there will be plenty to eat. We proceeded to the shore in his twelve canoes. We brought along fifteen crossbows, matchlock and marched in a formation prepared for any action. We marching along the road and noticed several Rocky Mountains. Out of nowhere we heard a Native voice calling a loud to his warriors, who seemed to lie waiting to surprise us. We were ambushed. We were faced against a large number of Indians who showered us with arrows. The Indian warriors wore shields, bows, and slings with feathers stuck to their heads. We fought back however and the might and fury of our matchlocks and crossbows they speedily began to give way. We lost fifteen of our men. We must conquer these savage Indians how dear they bring an olive branch of peace and proceed to kill all of us. I vow to lead this conquest to over throw and take this land, which we have discovered. Things are going rough for us right now after losing fifth teen of our men. But we are going to be very successful with the rest of the expedition. I’m confided that I can do what no other conquer can do who came before that and me is to be successful and capturing
