Creative Writing: A Simple Place

Maggie had stood in the middle of a forest. It was dark and foggy, though not so much as that she couldn 't see, it just made her feel like she was in a dream. There was an old house that sat in the middle of a swamp. She had no idea where she was or why she was here. She wasn’t dreaming, was she? This felt much too real to be a dream, but there was so much about the whole situation that was unexplained. She stepped forward and felt a breeze hit her shoulder, shivering, she looked around again. This was how she decided that there was no way that this could have been a dream, there was no way that it wasn’t. The whole place had felt much too real. The last thing that she could remember doing was getting into the car, because her and her brother …show more content…
Eventually recognizing it as the forest that she used to walk in when she was younger, which was about a mile 's walk from her uncle’s house. Though there were quite a few noticeable differences, the layout was fundamentally the same. Before it had been such a bright place that she was able to visit, to have fun with her brother and relax. The clean, fresh water was now replaced with a dirty, murky looking version. Though it was bizarre, that when looking into the water she could see a perfect reflection of herself like looking into a mirror, she couldn’t see through it, but there was a clear reflection. The constant fog being enough to add an extra layer of difference to this place. Even on some of the most dreary days, the site had never looked this bad. Though she still couldn’t shake the constant questioning in her mind as to why there was a random house here. She knew that there had had to be something around to reach …show more content…
The furniture looked old, though not very worn, and there was next to no dust that could be seen. If the circumstances had been different, she might have even thought that a few people lived here. Though there was a certain atmosphere to it that made the home feel as though not much had been done here in a long time. There was nothing laying out with a few cupboards, as well as shelves with many boxes on them scattered around. Her heart started racing as she recognized this place too. It had to be a coincidence right? There was no way that this could be her uncle’s house too, could it? If so, then why was it here, why was any of this happening at all? There was not much that she could think of that was ever out of the ordinary about her uncle 's home. The only thing that could have anything suspicious was the attic, that was strictly off limits to both her and her brother. The moment that thought came to her mind, she wished it hadn 't, now remembering the light that was on in the attic, she was even more terrified to proceed. There was bound to be someone who knew that she was

Staring into the darkened windows of homes along the way, Allie wondered where everyone was; were they hiding in their cellars the way she, Mary, and the children had earlier that day? When her grandparent’s house came into view, Allie almost cried aloud that it still stood. The tall, stately home glowed eerily in the smoke-filled air that surrounded it. Suddenly, Allie stopped; she realized that they might be running in the wrong direction!…

I walked up to the entrance of the evacuated home. The house could have been an enchanting two-story house; with its ivory framed windows, and front lawn. If it was not abandoned and lifeless, maybe this house would have been the dream house everyone fancied. But it's lifeless and boorish, just like the carrion of Timothy Woodsen. His body was no longer there, but the evidence was.…

She is being kept at a house for the summer she describes as being “the most beautiful place! It is quite alone, standing well back from the road, quite three miles from the village. It makes [her] think of English places that you read about, for there are hedges and walls and gates that lock, and lots of separate little houses for the gardeners and people”. However, she believes that there is something strange about the house, and this feeling only gets stronger when she sees the room that she is being forced to stay in. This room reminds her of a “nursery first and then playroom and gymnasium, [she] should judge; for the windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the wall”.…

There was a cream colored recliner in the corner of the room directly in front of the old-fashioned kitchen that Great-Grandma would sit in with her Golden Retriever Swish by her feet. Although there was an activity room, I did not see an activity happening in the time I was there and the fact that there were only 3 bottles of glue sitting out suggests that not many people were taking part in the activities. The pictures in the activity room could symbolize what is still in the residents’ hearts and minds.
