Tucked away in the suburbs of the hectic, bustling city of London lies a hotel that truly surprised me in all of the right ways. Even before arriving at the Best Western Palm Hotel I have to say I was skeptical. When booking the location for the first half of my European vacation, I never imagined that a Best Western would even be an option. While the brand is well known and even respected as a budget hotel dotted all over this country, I wasn’t even aware that they had roots overseas. I was also doubtful, the price was low, about $100.00 per night, which ultimately was the deciding factor to stay there. On top of all that it was not in central London. For a first time traveler abroad this was worrisome, as I had no idea how to operate the bus system, nor was I sure I wanted to. Despite any preconceived notion I had regarding this hotel, the price combined with the surprisingly high ratings led to the booking of a weeklong stay. After having completed this stay, it remains one of the best budget hotels I have ever stayed in for many reasons, despite its minor flaws. …show more content…
To paraphrase, he muttered something along the lines of “You’re nowhere near London, there’s not even any way to get into it from here other than a cab. Why didn’t you pick a hotel closer?” After having a mild panic attack and cursing the day he was born, my mother and I lugged our suitcases out of the trunk and onto the rainy suburban street. The exterior of the hotel is bizarre, and I suppose I would count this as one of its negatives. It’s surrounded by literal suburban cookie cutter family homes lining both sides of the street, and it’s no more than 3 stories high.
