A Time to Never be Forgotten

I will never forget the hot Florida sun in the summertime or the squeaking of basketball shoes moving across the hardwood court. All this happened when I was in the 3rd grade. As I was eager to get out of Kansas, I started packing my bags the night before, and I usually never pack until my mom is yelling at me at the top of her lungs to get out of the door. This was going to be my second time heading back to Florida, but my first time going there for basketball. We were going up there for AAU nationals to compete amongst the top teams from around the world. Our flight was due to leave at around 5:30am. Most people would hate to wake up that early to fly, but me on the other hand, I couldn’t wait!

There was nothing like it. Our eyes, luminous from the many lights suspended from the ceiling, just gazed in awe. My heart was going to beat out of my chest any second and we had not even started warming up yet. As we took the floor, all of us were nervous, not because of our opponents, but because we wanted to do well in front of our family, friends, and coaches. From the time of the jump ball all the way to the final buzzer, the time went by really fast. We ended up crushing our opponent by 30 points. Back then, I thought that the state of Kansas was just flat and boring with nothing but farms and bipolar weather. This trip kind of let everyone escape from reality. No jobs, no school, and no bills to pay. It seemed as if everyone was living their own fantasy. Off the court my family and I had a blast. Even my little brother and sisters were enjoying themselves even though they were not playing.
We ended up losing and placing 23rd out of 200 teams in the tournament. The last game that we played felt like it took forever. The time was as if it was in slow motion. I remember the crowd being rowdy and into the game, the ref blowing his whistle every dead ball, the net making a “swoosh” sound as I would sink my free-throws.
All of it, I remember until this day. Most of all I remember the feeling of leaving behind a fun memory of the trip. Knowing that I will be back in Kansas in the next 24 hours had to be the worst feeling yet. The flight dragged on and I was not as excited to get off the plane. All of us had to return to our normal lives, but we accepted the fact that we could not stay there forever. Due to all the fun and stunning times we had, this trip will be something that I will never

The time spent on the practice field was for moments like these. With our backs against the wall, we had to put up a fight against four other teams. And that was just to make it to the championship game. Not only were we the underdogs, we were the youngest team in the tournament. We won the first game, then the second; cruising through these teams were as easy as taking candy from a baby.…

No matter what happened we were going to have fun because it was our last time with the amazing coach we had and the last time we would see each other till high school. My first time at Cedar Point It was June 6th, 2016, the end of my eighth-grade year at TKMS, I woke up, at 5:30, jumped out of bed, got dressed, ate, and yelled at my mom to get in the car, all by 6:20. But of course we weren’t even close to ready, and we didn’t even need to leave until 7:30. So after reluctantly going back inside, to pack a spare pair of clothes, sunscreen, and our tickets (which we almost forgot), we were finally ready to go and it was already 7:40, “MOM!!!” I yelled panicking, “WE’RE GONNA BE LATE!!!” “We’re fine,” my mom said, “now calm down and say goodbye.”…
