Through the Renaissance, individuality began to come into light; expanding as an idea and reaching into new regions and people as it grew. To be an individual is to be creative in your own thinking, you’re free in your actions and you choosing your own path. At the beginning of the Renaissance life revolved around the church, it ruled them as a Government would have. It was very controlling and known for excommunication of anyone who disagreed. People in the early Renaissance were very contained in their thinking, taught to keep to themselves and do as the others did.

Even if someone did have a new idea, typically the church would excommunicate it if it did not follow the Bible’s teachings. As the years went on, scientists began to look at the details of things, as the world around them them seemed to be doing. They went further inwards, physically with the human body, and within their minds as well; expanding their explorations with new idea. Vesalius, an anatomist, worked with the human body, sketching the muscles and bones, locating everything he saw. What he depicted gave the people a new view of the human body. For some these drawings distanced them from God, giving the feeling that a body is just a body filled with mechanics and nothing holy. On the other hand it brought more people closer to God; these intricate, functioning bodies were made by God to serve the people. They began to learn how the body worked and that they could fix it if something went wrong; this opened their minds to a new world: the inside of the body. In Aristotle’s time, they wrote everything by hand, not allowing for much production to happen nor spreading of ideas. When the printing press was created it allowed for almost anyone to spread their ideas, books, and revolutions. In the case of Martin Luther, the printing press was one of the key factors, aiding his reformation. The printing press also allowed for more people to obtain a book, creating an increase in literacy to a greater extent than ever before. Something that came along with literacy was learning history of their ancestors and being able to read the Bible. When the printing press came into being it allowed a way for the people to read and comprehend the Bible to its full extent, not just in church. It allowed for the people to truly understand the meaning of God’s words, and what they stood for.
