The US government identified Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda responsible for the attack and demanded that the Taliban hand over bin Laden. The Taliban announced that “they won’t relinquish bin Laden because he is a, a guest, who has found sanctuary in Afghanistan and it is against the Pahtunwali code of ethics to turn over a guest” (341). Once again, many lives were lost in the tragic sweep of war. Children were left orphaned and homeless. Women were left widowed. The coalition forces managed to drive out the Taliban out of every major city, and push them across the border to Pakistan, and to the mountains in the south and east of Afghanistan. The ISAF, an international peacekeeping force was sent to Kabul. And a new president was elected.
The people of Afghanistan have gone through many problems and hardships that have changed their cultures and traditions. From welcoming and hospitable people, they have been locked up in their homes, in fear of murder.
