The Merriam-Webster dictionary states that a parent is one that brings forth offspring and raises and CARES FOR another. In Khaled Hosseini’s book A Thousand Splendid Suns, I believe that Hosseini strongly suggests that a parent should care for their child so much to where they go above and beyond for them. To Hosseini, Laila’s father, Babi, is a perfect example of this. In chapter 18, page 135, Babi helps Laila with her homework and gives her some of his own. Babi continuously stays on her about her schooling and says, “Women have always had it hard in this country, Laila, but they’re probably more free now, under the communists, and have more rights than they’ve ever had before.” He also goes on to say that she can be anything she wants to
