A Theme That I was able to see and understand from reading was Student Stress. After reader The Overachievers it change my viewpoint about Student Stress. Stress is something that many students have because they're worried about what school they're going or they might not get their project done on time. This is a problem many overachieves faced while there were growing up and many faced even once they got to college. Stress is something that isn’t easy to overcome and there are some people in the overachiever that I particularly feel that their stressed really spoke out to me. Many Students get stressed, but some with some students in went too far and was messing with their health. Pete Specifically was so stressed that he stayed up all night

In the book, The Overachievers by Alexandra Robbins, the author revolves predominantly around multiple students at Whitman high school, though it also introduces other people as the story progresses. In this work of literature, Robbins uses the lives of many students to portray the life of “overachievers,” students who pride themselves in working countless hours through a laundry list of extracurriculars and the “intensifying pressures to succeed and the drive of overachievers culture” (15). Through this book, the reader can see the focus of the work is on how the pressure to succeed in school has grown tremendously and how toxic it can be for students as well as family members involved. Through the manner in which she separated her book into…

As we all know, the theme of a story is the lesson that is being taught throughout the novel. But a theme can also be the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, or a person's thoughts. All stories have a theme, but they may not always be directly stated. This requires readers to dig deep down into the text and analyze the lessons that they have acquired through the book. Between the two excerpts, "Angelas Ashes" and "The Street", there is common theme that perseverance is important when times get tough in life.…

In the article, “Is Homework Making Your Child Sick?” by Amanda Enayati, the author states the effect homework is having on students in the ten high-performing public and private high schools in California. Many students in these high schools are doing more than three hours of homework per night, causing them to become sick. Denise Pope, a senior lecturer at the Stanford GSE claimed, ‘“Three hours of homework was an average, by the way...we had kids in the study who were doing way more than that,” as many as five hours in some cases.”’ Research shows that stress issues caused by excessive homework are also linked to physical health problems such as: migraines, ulcers, sleep deprivation, depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, exhaustion,…

The theme that I selected was transition. It is a big transition and challenge when you go from a high school dropout, to going back to college several years later. Coming from the work force, to education, you forget a lot. Not only memory of what you learned years ago, but also how to study more conservatively, using useful study tips you once knew. Now that I look at it, I may have been too optimistic about coming back to college.…

As readers, it is easily recognized that “this is a book about how a culture of overachievers has transformed the school experience so greatly in even the last ten years that it has starling altered what it means to be a student today” (Robbins, 14). Robbins develops her argument through personal interviews with nine distinct students. Her purpose was to illustrate the life of an overachieving student in order to show the complication and extreme competition in modern high school education. She offers advice to her readers, the future high school students, and their parents, in order to try and make a stop to the rigorous and extremely experience that students call "high school" today. She mentions that “in present day America, school for many students has developed into a competitive frenzy.…

Around the time when I talk about Amanda’s dad not being happy about everyone finding out her secret, I make the music drop. Also, when I put the pictures in there of the broken hearts I drop the music because it's a sad topic in the story.
