A Thank You: Personal Narrative

Whether it’s paying for cheer, paying for my phone, driving me places, or going the extra mile to make sure I have what I want, I want you to know that I am grateful for it all. I leave for school at seven and you leave for work at nine. You get home around eight o’clock every night and I get back around ten. We don’t see each other very often, and when we do, it’s for a rough ten minutes max.

Maxfield, I thought it would be a good idea to write you a letter rather than yell or cry over FaceTime. I know that’s all I’ve been doing and I want to make a difference in how I speak to you for once. I’m going to tell you everything I can’t say in person in this letter so that at least you can read it and not be stressed that I’m crying or getting mad at you.…

“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…

Positive Vibes I was born and raised in Queens, New York, and had lived there for 16 1⁄2 years until I came to a resolution from my parents to move to Virginia, which shocked me. I was shocked because after living in the same apartment for 16 years, I've got used to the environment of where I lived at, and felt comfortable, and that's actually where I started my love of playing basketball. Being in New York was a place I thought I never leave because I enjoyed the company I was around and the many different things to do. I always thought about how my life would be if I moved somewhere else, and became the new person and how difficult it would be. Moving to another state wasn't something I planned on doing, until after graduate.…

I Believe In Appreciation I believe in appreciation. When I was a child, my mother often told me to appreciate what I had in my life, as she consistently tells me now. Those single moments, single experiences, have led me to realize how blessed I was to have what I had in life also taught me the preciousness of life.…
