Memory is what we remember, and gives us the capacity to learn and acclimate from past ordeals as well as establishing relationships. It is also the process of being able to recall previously learned knowledge, experiences, beliefs, talents and habits. One aspect of memory is called semantic memory. Semantic memory is how we are able to understand and comprehend the meanings of various things such as words and knowing facts about the world. It is the second part of declarative memory along with episodic memory.…
He states that he was successful in memory retrieval in the first part of experiment, because he could make logical connections which use deeper levels of processing, this allows him to make sense of the chess board pieces, he then refers to a technique called chunking. Working memory plays a pivotal role in playing chess, chunking helps because our short-term memory can only hold 5-9 pieces of information at a time, chunking allowed him to encode more pieces at one time, helping with memory. When playing chess, short-term memory is also responsible for remembering recent events, such as what move was made two steps ago, this is important for making future moves. Procedural memory and top-down perception, uses past experiences and prior knowledge, to perform certain tasks quickly and recognize familiar chess patterns with ease, both these concepts played a key role in the chess masters ability to correctly reconstruct. The chess masters use of working memory, procedural memory, top-down perception and chunking, helped him comprehend things quickly and perform the first part of the experiment with near perfect…
The painting by Eric J. Garcia which is named “remember” instantly caught my eye during my visit to the Mexican Art Museum because I have been doing a project on the Alamo for another class. The painting itself was created in 2005 and is oil on canvas and it very vivid in the actual meaning and to an average art observer, it should be easy to depict the actual meaning of the battle going on. The artist uses many different techniques to resemble a historic moment, the painting itself has historic and cultural meaning due to the actual battle taking place, also the painting itself shows high levels of tensions between the two parties. Eric J. Garcia famously painted the oil on canvas painting which he titled Remember, the painting is a still…
In the beginning of the experiment, there were 18 participants. The participants were college students at the College of Wooster. The 18 participants were also enrolled in a 300 level Psychology course, Learning and Behaviour, where this experiment took place. One participant’s results were thrown out because she joined the experimenter in the third and final trial. At the end of all three trails, only 17 participant’s results were collected.…
In comparison, recalling memory can be an extremely complicated process; not only the memory of the fact itself, but also ways of interpreting the memory are required to recall memories. Especially when interpreting…
Melanie Dorfman Ms.Kryzanowski GP Block 2 28 September 2015 PBPA Community building is when a community or ‘association’ comes together as one and constructs a better environment where all things benefit. In the passages “Once Upon a Time”by Nadine Gordimer and “Rituals of Memory” by Kimberly M. Blaesser they show the differences and similarities in community building. Both share the experience of different groups developing communities and the interaction. The differences between the two passages is their coexistence.…
Another example would be that as I am playing cards with my friends, I will use my long-term memory, the system of memory into which all the information is placed to be kept more or less permanently, in order to remember the rules and how to play so that I can win.…
Running head: BIMS COMPARED TO BCAT 1 Brief Interview for Mental Status Compared to Brief Cognitive Assessment Tool Joshua Hall Emporia State University April 30, 2017 BIMS COMPARED TO BCAT 2 Brief Interview for Mental Status Compared to Brief Cognitive Assessment Tool. The primary goal of the study is to determine which instrument is more sensitive in identifying degrees of cognitive functioning. This article is attempting to exemplify the differences between a brief interview for mental status and a brief cognitive assessment tool in a nursing home setting with two hundred twenty nine individuals.…
Tulving’s persuasive theory of the two propositional memory types: Episodic and Semantic, have been pivotal in the research and study of Long-Term Memory for over four decades (Brown, Creswell, & Ryan, 2016). Semantic memory provides us with the memory needed for the use of language, whereas episodic memory focuses on the autobiographical events that can be explicitly recalled. There are many differences in these two memory sub-types that further differentiate them from one another. In addition to the differences between these two declarative memory types, we will also discuss the evidence for the distinction between episodic and semantic memory, both behaviorally and with the brain. Episodic memory is a type of memory that is associated…

One study showed how eyewitness memory can be unreliable by examining the effects of arousal and expectation on eyewitness memory. The study exposed 97 participants to a captivating eyewitness experience by creating four virtual real world stimulus environments. Randomly assigned participants were assigned to four conditions: non-arousing and expected, and non-arousing and unexpected, arousing and expected, arousing and unexpected. Later, results showed that memory performance in an arousing confrontation showed much lower than that for a non-arousing encounter. Memory performance for an unexpected environment also showed significantly lower than that of an expected encounter.…
Until recently, individuals with Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD) were expected to have a short life span. Growing older brings many age related signs and symptoms affecting this population not only physically, emotionally, but cognitively as well. While the body ages, certain progressive changes occur; which may be dictated by genes, environmental factors, or lifestyle. Anatomical transformations occur in all systems from the muscular skeletal with the loss of some agility to the heart becoming less efficient.…
When it comes to individual, everyone has different levels of ability to deal with memory. In reality, you will find many women complaining that their husbands or boyfriends tend to forget their birthdays and anniversaries; and men always explain that they have bad memories. So, is it true that women have a better memory than men? Dose gender affect memory? The evidence shows that gender dose affect memory.…

It allows people with tasks such as going to the shop and remembering everything they need to buy, or where and when they’ve to be somewhere for a meeting. Memory can be explained by using two psychological approaches: Biological and Cognitive.…
Case Study of Cognitive Assessment Vickneswary D/O Jeraman TM15-10172 TMC Academy Module: CPSY Lecturer: Dr Eliza Berezina Date of Submission: July 3, 2015 Word Count: 1914 Abstract This paper is about cognition and methods of assessment to test the cognitive level of an individual. It is targeted on four main tests to evaluate the level of perception, attention, short term memory (STM) and long term memory (LTM) of a selected person. The four main tests are Muller-Lyer Illusion test to test the perception level, stroop effect to test the attention, remember 12 words task to test the STM and finally remember 10 pictures task to test the LTM.…
