Mrs. Poellnitz is a teacher at Monroeville Middle School in Monroeville, Alabama. She graduated from the University of West Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Education. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in K-12 leadership from the Grand Canyon University. Mrs. Poellnitz envisions being a principal for a K-12 school after completing her degree and she plans on teaching at the junior college level. She is also employed with Alabama Southern Community College as a teacher with Upward Bound, which is part of the Trio Program during the summer. The program is targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and …show more content…
Poellnitz has had several opportunities of teaching physical science and life science since her career started. Mrs. Poellnitz’s teaching certificate allows her to teach physical science for the eighth grade, but if she wanted to teach physical science at the high school level, she would have to pass the general science test on the Praxis Series to assess her knowledge in that content area. The Doctorate degree is not a requirement to become a principal, but it will allow Mrs. Poellnitz to become a principal. My ideas have change in that I am thinking about being a double major and getting my degree in Exercise Science and in Health Education. I want to do an internship and then work on getting my teaching degree. I believe that I would fit the position of a teacher well, being that I like to help others. The career of a biology teacher appeals to me for various reasons, but the main reason is that I have a passion for helping others. I see being an educator as an opportunity to instill knowledge and wisdom in the lives of young people. I am interested in being a teacher because I plan on one day becoming an educator. This interview has given me a greater appreciation for educators, and it has also given me the opportunity to get a teachers perspective on teachers and how they teach
