From an Electrician to a Teacher: An Autobiography

I firmly believe that to be successful and flourish in education and childhood learning, your heart must lead you to this passion – as my heart did a year ago. Coming out of high school, my dreams were far beyond teaching and spending a lifetime discovering the miracles within humanity. I grew up among construction workers, farmers, and mechanics, for that’s what nearly all my immediate family and relatives were engaged in and that’s what I wanted to do – or so I thought. Anyway, I joined a local electrician company and after four years I obtained my license as a journeyman electrician. I seriously enjoyed my work and thought it was an excellent paying career. However, deep within myself something else was calling. My favorite part in being an electrician might have aroused that. I loved firing up a new circuit; specifically, I loved turning on a light switch for the first time. It brought such an intense feeling of success and accomplishment. I realized my heart had a longing for deeper and more passionate accomplishments, and that’s when I changed the course of my life so I can, perhaps, change the life of others.
