A Tale of Two cities is a book that is set around the time of the French Revolution, and is authored by the English writer Charles Dickens. The events throughout the book show how Lucie, Dr. Manette, Mr. Lorry, and other characters are connected. The horrendous actions going on around them as a result of the people's’ hopelessness is evident. Manette is remembering the horrors he witnessed in La Force. He sees a prisoner that was “discharged into the street free”(Dickens 275), but then someone threw a pike (spear) at him; he passed out as a result.
