Family: My mother, a Japanese-American met my father, an Italian-American in a Japanese-American relocation camp in California during the War in 1942. Within a year, my mom had me, but I never met my father. My mother told me that people saw my dad as a traitor to his own country. SHe also told me that he received a lot of pressure to leave me and my mom. I couldn’t understand how he could leave us, without even seeing me. I’m 17 now, and I’ve been searching, trying to find clues as to who my dad could be. It always struck me as to why my mom chose to keep his last name, “Russo.”.
