My interest in becoming a pharmacist started after completion of Drug and Alcohol Pharmacology. Since then chemistry has started to have a reason to be learned in combination with biology. Who would have realized that a combination of drugs can create a synergistic effect doubling the potency of a drug? Or giving drugs in an order in which the first drug is to inhibit receptors that may be bind by the following second drug? To be a part of this profession originated greatly from self interest in learning more about pharmacology and medicinal chemistry. I wish to provide research in a clinical setting and direct patient care. I believe the pharmacy profession is not just a four year commitment to the program, but a life term commitment and my …show more content…
I also participate with International Student and Asian Student Organization and various other student organizations at Metropolitan State University. During my undergraduate, I worked 20 to 30 hours per week during my years at Metropolitan State University while attending full time status. It was difficult to adapt to long hours of lecture at Metropolitan State University and socializing with students are limited. I found passion in science and decided to major in biology and minor in chemistry. In the Fall of 2011 through Spring of 2012, I volunteered to be the vice president and secretary for the Asian Student Organization due to resignation of the two board members. My leadership role to carry on the duties of various events planning till the beginning of the new fiscal year hindered my academic performance thus my grades dropped for Fall and Spring semester of that year. Due to the high volume of extracurricular activities with the addition of high work hours that year, the following years I reduced many extracurricular and improved my performance. I shadowed IV compounding pharmacists and volunteer at the IV Cancer Pharmacy department within Region’s Hospital. I learn the importance of compounding Chemo drugs and working with software such as Dosage. How a pharmacist must observe and make professional calculations assuring right dosage is compounded before being administered to the patient. Understanding the level of professional skills gives me a first hand on how to be a pharmacist. I also work as a Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Account Administrator at United Community Pharmacy. At United Community Pharmacy I work to recover financial lost by the pharmacy since the pharmacy first started. I interact with patient prescriptions, record and account history. Majority of my time I work along with pharmaceutical, insurance on remittance files and pharmacy management. On the side I support pharmacy technician in prescription refills, prior authorizations and inventory returns. With a personal interest in the program I am determined to become a
