Large Universities Vs Big Universities

Going to college for the first time can be a very daunting task. Choosing the wrong school can lead to some of the worst years of your life or some of the best. When deciding which school to peruse, it is important to consider whether a smaller university or a larger university is fit for the student. Both small and large universities have their pros and cons such as class sizes, social life, and their resources. Larger university typically have anywhere from 15,000 students to 70,000. At a larger university, such as UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles), it is common to see over 500 students in one class. With classes this big, it is virtually impossible for the teacher to give individual attention to students and making them feel anonymous. Larger universities will have more money which will allow them to have better libraries, better athletic departments, and a better cafeteria. This will attract famous people and well distinguished faculty members. Large universities will have better equipment in their library and science labs. They will have the online libraries and the latest technology to use. Their school’s sports teams will have bigger stadiums, more fans, and players from all over the country. The cafeteria will be better as they will have better chefs, new food recipes, and have a restaurant feel to them. When attending a larger university, students must be advised to pick their classes and declare their major. Students will typically be advised through large group sessions opposed to being assigned a personal advisor. At a large university, the options of majors are nearly endless with there being so many.
