My son Miles Magruder has proven that he has the intellectual ability to successfully complete the advanced course work at Samuel Ogle Middle School by maintaining a 3.0+ grade point average. As the year has progressed his skill set, staying focused, completing assignments and even turning in assignments has interfered with his overall performance. This inability to perform has also weakened his self confidence and love for learning. I believe AVID program will encourage, motivate and bring back his excitement for

Functional Analysis Screening Tool Summary I interviewed three different people using the FAST forms in terms of Matt’s off-task behavior of drawing and playing with toys. I interviewed his paraprofessional (Mrs. Cafini), speech and language pathologist (Mrs. Buko) and general education teacher (Mrs. Pontillo). All professionals work with Matt on the days he attends his part time kindergarten program (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). I first met with the paraprofessional and she discussed what she was seeing throughout the entire day.…

Introduction: Today’s classroom is filled with an array students whom each have individual strengths and limits. It is our responsibility as teachers to not only identify and celebrate their strengths, but to determine their areas of limitation so that we can aid in building up these areas. In the following case, Joe is a 2nd grader who attends a Title 1 tutor class while attending an elementary magnet school. As the tutor class begins while Joe’s reading class is still in session his teacher is collaborating with this tutor to find ways to adjust the assignments so that Joe can meet the nine week goals his teach has set.…

We are Barbara and Ben Hardesty, grandparents and guardians of Joseph Woods, whom we would like to enroll into Aaron Academy. Joseph is a 17 year old young man who would like to graduate High School and continue his education at College. Joseph has been expelled from Metro Nashville Public Schools, Cane Ridge High School, recently. We are appealing his expulsion, but even if we are successful in his appeal we, and he, feel it is in his best interest to begin home schooling for his education. It is our opinion that allthough MNPS has great intentions in educating the youth of Nashville, they are not succeding in Joseph's case.…

I volunteered at Jack Jouett Middle School for the eighth-grade AVID program. In the classes, I helped students go through the AVID tutorial process. I functioned as a guide who coached the students through a Socratic process to understand points of confusion from their core classes, and then through collaborative work to understand the steps needed to clarify their point of confusion. All students in the AVID class apply to be in the program. They must have average to high test scores with a C to B+ grade point average.…

It has shown me that when you put more than one mid together the work ethic is great. Also I’ve found that your peers really become a value to you. If it wasn’t for AVID I don’t think I would’ve been working collaboratively to achieve the goal of an “A”. Collaboration is everywhere in AVID whether it’s on T.R.F.’s or philosophical chairs. Organization-Once said before organization has not only helped my grades but as well as, turning in assignments on time but by also helping me create goals.…

My participation in BUILD PODER will contribute to the program’s goals mainly because I am a Latina who is dedicated to going to medical school and becoming a doctor. I was raised in Southern Oxnard but moved when I was nine due to the increasing numbers of gang violence in my area, in fact, some of my family members are affiliated with gangs. My mom was raised in a very abusive household and as soon as she turned 18 she moved out and had to sleep in her car. Because of her situation, college was an impossible dream. Although, my biological father does have a college degree, he hasn’t spoken to me since I was 7.…

I found the information in this course beneficial in helping me to educate my administration and staff members to rediscover the benefits of MI strategies in the learning environment. The section, A Broader View in An MI Odyssey, clearly outlines why is it important to develop the whole child, rather than solely focusing on standardized test scores. The information also illustrates approaches educators can use to help children who do not traditionally score well on standardized tests other ways they can excel, which can enhance the learner’s motivation and confidence in school. This point was mentioned on page 7.3; “With a large array of strategies we can match all students’ intelligences. With each strategy we make the curriculum…

Reading Interest Survey The two students I interviewed for the interest reading survey were my two brothers Airian and Adrian. The two had very different results. I will analyze their results individually and then I will analyze them together as well as make suggestions for each of the two in topics I believe they would be interested in reading. Since the two were raised in different settings I will also bring in the concept of nature vs. nurture and how it can possibly affect ones interest in reading.…

Assignment 3: Video & Image Editing I realize that there is an internet social media culture that enjoys taking pictures and posting them online for their friends, family, and the world to see. I have friends that post pictures multiple times a day seemingly storing their pictures on social media for all to devour anytime they choose. Many of the photos that my friends post online are edited with some sort of software that they have downloaded or with software that is included in their camera applications. Many of them use the photo editing apps to enhance their pictures by removing flaws, enhancing the vibrancy of colors, and putting text over their pictures, just to name a few.…

When it comes to audio production for R&B, the beat and the song lyrics are the best to focus on to make the best out of your music. Create a unique theme, if it has been overly used before, take note that chances are that people will not pay too much attention on it. In Chris Brown's song with you he talks about a guy that was with a special girl. As I began this class in January my definition of curriculum was based on the academic coursework teachers use to instruct the information. Now my definition of curriculum is anything that falls under the auspice of the school that includes coursework, classroom arrangement, instruction, assessment, student engagement, and community involvement. My perspective is curriculum is what students learn in and out of the school. We need to teach students to become learners and problem solvers for the 21st century. I currently work at The Academy at Penncrest High School through the Simon Youth Foundation.…
