Drucker (1994) defined a metaphor as a method of explaining, thinking or experiencing one thing through another thing. Numerous studies have been shown that preschoolers and early elementary school age children have the ability to understand some verbal metaphors (Vosniadou & Ortony, 1983). Piaget (1962) also believed that young children learn to separate the symptoms from what they represents. Metaphors can be used as a therapeutic tool with children. Children express their views and conflicts through play. They may produce metaphors in their play and counselors also may use metaphors to facilitate therapeutic changes (Irwin, 1983).
Bibliotherapy may also provide opportunities for children to benefit from metaphors. The illustrations
