A Summary Of A Personal Reflective Essay On Mrs. Battles

Decent Essays
On December 9th, 2016, Mrs. Battles assigned an assessment to her classes. It was a personal reflective essay about an important lesson we have learned a lesson and how we learned it. When it was assigned I was scared, for I couldn’t think of anything to reflect on. Everything had not enough detail or not school appropriate, I was in a very bad situation. Everyday in L.A I was being left further behind, not knowing if I will ever think of anything to reflect upon. As the days pass, I started to feel stupid and wondering why I can’t think of anything, I have learned lessons but not in a big way. What was I supposed to do? As I went further behind the whole class, I started asking other people if they could help me with the essay. At first I

During my junior year at Stephen Decatur High School, I was enrolled in American Literature with Mrs. Moore. At first I thought she was a hard teacher because she made us write a lot. I enjoyed writing creative pieces, but in her class she gave us a prompt or we had to analyze a text and prove how the author believed in the American Dream or not. The first essay we wrote I scored a 29 out of 30 and was proud of myself because English has not always been my strongest subject. Our next assignment was on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.…

In this fall semester of college what I’ve learned in Ms. Balderas class is knowing how to properly write a college written essay. I know after taking this course that I can somewhat write a well written essay that is college appropriate. In high school I was taught to write essay that were good enough for the teachers, but now that I’m in college I feel the need that I need to write better and show my instructor that I do know what I am writing about. I’ve learned so many ways to write a paper, but some of my essays aren’t there yet, I feel as if I haven’t gotten to the point where I’ve learned to write a paper that is good, but I know within time I’ll get there.…

At the beginning of the year around the same time that the first essay assignment was being discussed and explained I began to think that the assignment was going to be somewhat easy. I began to search for books that seemed interesting to research, that I could use for the assignment. The selection process was one of the most time consuming parts of the assignment. I I gathered the final four books which were “Rebel Souls”, “Walt Whitman Reconsidered”, “Walt Whitman: A Gay Life”, and “Walt Whitman”. I began to realize that this essay was not as easy as I thought it was.…

Reflective writing as a genre allows for a combination of personal reflection and critical thinking all intertwined into one. I turned my reflection essay into a new reflection that focused on a different level of the education system that would allow for me to reflect on my first semester of college to back up my allegations against the school system. When attempting to revise my essay in a new way I reread my old one and found an interesting theme screaming out of the paper. It was saying, “high school and Regents did not prepare me for college.” I took the idea a little further and expanded it to the SAT, that is a similar testing style to Regents, that similarly did not prepare me for college, and through research I found that income status…

Like many as a child, I did not do a great deal reflective learning. Everyone, of course, learns from their mistakes. But does everyone learn from the things they did right? When Dr. Kreps came into the classroom last week, I started looking up questions to ask him. I started to think of some questions that made me question about the experience that I was about to have.…

While I did not have permission to view the individual scores myself, it was implied that most students received a 70% or above. Following this, students reviewed the short story titled “My Furthest Back-Person.” The day before, Mrs. Lanza was absent and had the students read the story and take a multiple-choice quiz.…

My life took a drastic change when I transitioned from a public to private school. I ended up at Lighthouse Christian School where I was taught to write research papers. One of my failures of this class was when I received a letter grade of “C+” on my first This I Believe essay. I have always seen letter grades lower than a “C” as a bad grade and to me receiving that grade was a failure. On my This I Believe essay I was not familiar with the type of style and format it was suppose to be written and assumed I knew it. I had the confidence that I knew what to write despite, considering what the expectations were for the essay.…

Ogene Ochai Professor Thomas Writ 101 9 September 2014 Literacy Narrative Moving to the United States was a very hard transition for me. Learning how to speak the American English, and learning their spelling words was so difficult because I was raised speaking British English, learning the morals, culture and how you guys communicated with one another was also a hard part of moving down here. I already knew how to speak English when I moved to the United States, but I spoke British English, and spelt words differently from the Americans. For example, the Americans spells color without a “U” and with the background I had we spelt the word “color” with a U, and we used the same words but some of them has…

With every new class I have ever taken, came new experiences, new knowledge, and self improvement. Which have all made me into a better student and molded me as a person. Not all classes do this to every student it consist of the student’s willingness to learn, and the teacher’s interest in their students learning. In English 1302, I have improved my analyzing skills, my communication skills, and I am working on correct grammar. One of my favorite assignments from this semester that really helped me refresh and improve my analyzing skills was the song/poem essay.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Writing an essay about my experience as a writer and how I feel when I write. I thought should be a breeze until, I received my grade back. It was not a horrible grade, nor what I was expecting. When reading the teacher’s comment “While you did write your response in several paragraphs, it isn 't fully a reflective essay. To be an essay, it must include an introduction paragraph that ends with a thesis/focus sentence, supporting body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.”…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…

We had a meeting about this essay, and ultimately, I was disappointed in my scre of 1.5 and kept blaming it all on myself. I kept beating myself down wanted to give up on the class after this essay, because I had felt it was my best essays i had ever analyzed. When we talked and you started talking to me, I think we both realized I completely understood my ideas and that they were analyzed very well in my head, by just were not on paper. Which I believe shows I understood this core principle of deep thinking, learning etc. As I write my first draft, ideas always pop up into my head, the problem is these thoughts don't get put on paper in a well written…
