I believe there is much power in art education and preparing our future generations for the world of creativity that is ever evolving. I believe a successful art education is built through four means: active learning, character building, providing meaningful curriculum, and building a useful 21st century skill set. As I have learned from and been highly influenced from Piaget’s constructivist views of education, each person makes sense of the world by connecting new experiences into our previous knowledge. I believe that good curriculum helps improve student achievement, in both academic and personal ways. It evokes more thorough and deeper thought, where the context is explored and discovered, rather than mentioned. Our society has many great resources and researched based teaching methods. These are helpful and essential in providing consistent meaningful curriculum. I also believe there is a balance between both the needs of the individual learners as well as the standards and benchmarks of each grade. I also recognize that good curriculum is ever evolving as both our world and the needs of our students change.
Through dedication and passion, I believe these important factors will be tools in preparing today’s learners for tomorrow’s challenges and changes.
