Many universities love to see their students involved in extracurricular activities which is why they proudly broadcast that students involved in Greek organizations tend to have higher grade point averages and higher graduation rates. A study put on at the University of Missouri at Kansas City found that "71% of all members of fraternities and sororities graduate from college, while 50% of their independent counterparts don 't finish school” (Saltiel). Most sororities, including my own, require a minimum grade point average of 2.5, with some even being a 3.0 and above. This pushes members to do well in school and strive for academic excellence. I did not want people to have prejudices of me just because of a button on my backpack. A “sorority girl” was not the image I wanted. I wanted to be known for more than that because I am more than that. As time has gone on I have learned what all is involved in being a “sorority girl.” Sorority girls are intelligent. Sorority girls are charitable. Sorority girls are accepting. Sorority girls are so much more than I first thought. I now have confidence in my letters. I wear my letters proudly and never think twice about it. A sorority’s letters are highly important, and I strive every day to showcase my letters in the best light
