Outdoor work activities: everybody does them to some degree. Sometime they are unpleasant, sometime they are more unpleasant, sometime the activities are actually fun, even enjoyable. Outdoor work activities typically have a purpose, and when that purpose is personally beneficial, the work can be gratifying. Yard work has stereotypically been a man’s obligation; however what if there are no men in the household? These days it is more common for a woman to be the homeowner. Wear long sleeves, long pants, sturdy shoes to protect possible missteps, and gloves to keep our manicures intact. A face mask keeps dust and bugs from entering the nose or mouth, and goggles for eye protection. Any goggles will work, as long as there is clear vision. Oh, and have a towel handy for perspiration. Necessary tools include a push lawn mower, a weed eater, both full of gas and extra line for the weed eater. An electric blower and a heavy duty extension cord, one long enough to reach all areas that require blowing, completes the necessary tools. These are the simplest and least costly tools, and coincidentally the most effective for a physical workout. An ice chest with ice and a few bottles of water or Gatorade prevents dirt and grass clippings from being tracked inside the house to get to the refrigerator.
