Will I be able to handle being a mortuary cosmetologist? That is the question that comes to mind when I think of my future career. Mortuary cosmetology does include a lot of procedures and real life training. It is a relatively new career option that dates back to the late 1970s and I admit, it can be a scary job. It is a job that pays though. So, the question I really need to ask is, is it worth it? In mortuary cosmetology you prepare the deceased for the viewing and you may need to provide comfort for the family left behind. To prepare them you will need to be able to make them look like they did when they were alive. To do this you will either use a photograph that is given to you by the family or you will have to do it from your memory of the recently deceased. Working with the dead is not for everyone though. You may not be used to it at first and it may make you feel uneasy. If you work at it enough though, the experience you acquire will cause the uneasiness to disappear. Mortuary cosmetology is not usually required for dead men unless the body itself was in a bad condition and even then you will only be needed to reconstruct the body to make the deceased appear as he did in life, but not use any special makeup that would make the man’s face look womanly. When you first get into the career field of a mortuary cosmetologist you may have trouble acquiring clients.
