I volunteered as a tutor at Saint Mary 's bridge Home through the PULSE program this year. Working with a population of disenfranchised youth at Saint mary 's center taught me one key lesson that I would like to bring to the Student Technology Specialist position; Computer Science and Math is for everyone. No matter who it is or what type of school system they have been subjected to, If you have a passion you can lean. Wrestling with STEM study alongside these children taught me the only thing between perceived ‘STEM people’ and ‘regular people’ is fictitious; any one can learn with passion. Mary 's Bridge Home has changed me at a crucial point in my life. As a mentor, tutor, and caretaker to children who have been victims of abuse and neglect I saw, first hand and for one of the first times, an altruistic meaning I my education. PULSE confronted me with the question of ‘What 's the point?’ relative to education. My response was that I am here as a privileged individual at Boston College for others; particularly those less privileged. For six hours twice a week I would make my way to Dorchester and be with children who society has not given a fair chance; because of this they lacked the soft skills essential to achieving in school. Lending a hand up to these children fostered qualities of stewardship in me that were lying dormant; and developed a passion for teaching that will last a
