women apart when you take the hair out of the picture? For my study I predict junior and
senior girls will be the best at telling the genders. They will actually take the time to sit
down and think about it, whereas the boys will just guess and move on. That is why
there have been many studies done to see just how differently the female and male
brains perceive things. With one quick glance we often think that we have the ability to
put their faces in the right gender category. Scientists disagree, and argue that certain
gender cues such as hair, makeup, and facial hair are crucial at least 70% of the time
when recognizing males and females. There are also many other ways …show more content…
A new study published in
the Journal of Vision found the luminescence of the eyebrow and mouth region is vital in
gender discrimination. "As teenagers, dimorphism (systematic difference between
sexes) increases in the nose, chin, mouth, jaw, eyes, and general shape of faces,"says
Nicolas Dupuis- Roy, lead author of the study. "Yet we aren 't conscious of how our brain
recognizes those differences" (ScienceDaily). Studies are now being done to uncover
what face cues we use for gender discrimination. Until today, the people who have
studied this topic has highlighted the importance of the obvious features, the eyes, the
eyebrows, the jaw and the face outline. A good way to determine which picture is which
gender would be to look at the thicker eyebrows and wider more prominent and chiseled
jaw, the wider forehead, and bigger nose of a male. Females usually have thinner more
arched eyebrows, a smaller nose, and fuller cheeks. If you have a more feminine
looking man with a slender looking face that has a beard and you take that facial cue
away it may make it more difficult to distinguish between male and female. The
