The event in which I attended was a Parent Teacher Association meeting in Queens Gateway to Health Sciences Secondary School, located at 160-20 Goethals Avenue, Jamaica, NY, 11432. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. and adjourned at 8 p.m. The agenda for this meeting included the 8th grader Regents, the 8th grader school dance, PTA bylaws vote, PTA elections and picture day. The purpose of a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is to help connect parents, students, and teachers and it serves as a place for discussion about educational and school conflicts (Department of Education, 2015). They are responsible for organizing school activities, social events, and fundraising (Department of Education, 2015).
Some behavioral characteristics of the co-president of the PTA that helped shape the meeting were approachable, fair, and passive. Her approachable manner helped create an open environment where everyone felt they could express their

Some parents felt that the students should stay in school after the exam because they have full time jobs and did not feel comfortable leaving their children at home unattended. While other parents felt it was unfair to make their children stay a full school day after taking a difficult three-hour exam. They felt that allowing them to go home early would help them to relax, recharge and give their children the opportunity to study more for the next exam on the following day. Another fact brought up .was that the students who take the school bus do not receive metrocards and would have to find another means of transportation to get home, if they were released early. Due to the many conflicting opinions regarding this matter and the lack of attendance by 8th grader parents at this meeting, the voting on this issue was pushed to the next PTA meeting in

During this semester I personally contributed to my overall success in the PTAP 2310 class by studying consistently and coming prepared to class. I found that having previously read the chapter and notes, I was able to further understand what Dr. Amite was teaching. This also proved to be beneficial if I had trouble understanding a portion of the chapter I could come with questions. I entered this class knowing that my performance and understanding of the information relied heavily on my entrance into the PTA program. Becoming a PTA is so important to me that it kept me driven to have a complete understanding of the material, even when it was most difficult.…

I attended a meeting with the Latino Medical student Association on the topic of DACA and how it can affect medical school hopefuls. My friend who is a member of the organization informed me about the meeting and with what was going on in the news regarding the future of DACA and its recipients I thought it would be important to go. l learned that they are very big on community and connecting their members with different opportunities as well as fostering a comfortable environment that allows their members to freely speak about important topics. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of students from different backgrounds that were all Dreamers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional hearing about the many times medical…

They want to help set the school policy, select curriculum materials, review budgets, etc. The challenges that occur when including parents in school decision making are the inclusion of the parent leaders from all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and other groups in the school. It is imperative to have representatives from these groups included and trained to be parent leaders and student advocates in the community. Again, the assessment of needs is important in order to provide the means and opportunities for all to be a part of the parent leadership group in school. When instituted, the parents gain the feeling of ownership of school and awareness of parent’s voices in school decisions; they provide insightful input for the policies that affect child’s education, and share experiences and connections with other families.…

It is an ongoing argument on whether high school students should arrive at schools later to help the teens who are sleep deprived, depressed and have serious mood swings. This is inconvenient for a number of reasons. Parents cannot get their children to school on time if the school time is changed, and it interrupts the teens schedules who are already accustomed to the 7:30 time scheduling. In the passage “ High schools starting later to help sleepy teens” by: Michelle Trudeau it states that later school times are helping the teens be more alert in class, they have less depression issues and the parents have less problems than before due to their emotions being more regulated.…

The third AA meeting I attended was at Bridgewater Congregational Church, in Bridgewater Connecticut, at 7:00pm on Friday June 8, 2018. The past two meetings I attended were open book, however this meeting was a twelve- step meeting. The language used in this meeting was the same as the two other meetings I observed. Many members mentioned the words “higher power”, “prayer”, and “powerlessness”. The man who ran the meeting introduced himself, read the preamble and asked if there were any new members present.…

ELAD690_52 M6 Discussion on Family Engagement As a new principal in an unfamiliar school, I would need to learn about existing family engagement by gathering data in order to develop an appropriate plan. According to Ferlazzo, “We need to relate to families, not as clients, but as partners in school and community improvement,” (2011, p. 10). Similarly, we need to engage all stakeholders in the community to support our schools, and educate teachers, that it is a misconception that providing parents with power does not decrease our control; rather, it increases the size of the pie to afford additional opportunities (Ferlazzo, 20011, p. 14).…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

According to the behavioral approach, how would you describe Susan’s leadership? I believe Susan is an Authority – Compliance (9,1) leader. She doesn’t seem to care to get to know her staff as long as everyone is working and the task is being completed she is happy with their work. I believe because Susan wears so many hats at the store she doesn’t have time to get to know her staff and may need to hire someone she can trust to help relieve some of her duties. 2.…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
