Chapter One: Introduction West Georgia Technical College is located in Waco, Georgia and is the state 's third-largest technical college. As part of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is a rural two year public technical institution located in the west Georgia area with campuses in Douglasville, Murphy, Waco, Carrollton, Lagrange, and Newnan. Additionally, the college is principally a commuter campus. The college was formed on September 4, 2008 from a merger of West Central Technical and West Georgia Technical colleges. The State Board of the TCSG a voted unanimously to merge 14 technical colleges statewide into six institutions. The union formed the new West Georgia Technical College. The college serves the counties of Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether and Troup. Heard and Meriwether county locations do not have comprehensive campuses, but do have sites for classes. The institution 's total enrollment for the 2014-2015 academic school year was 9,844 students with 8,240 students receiving some form of financial aid. In the same academic year, there were 1,935 graduates. The college employs a semester-based academic calendar with a student-faculty ratio of 18-to-1.
