A Story Of Potiphar's Life

Improved Essays
It felt like my world was crumbling down. First I had been abandoned by my own brothers, sold to merchants, and then sold as a slave. The man I was sold to was named Potiphar, who was one of Pharaoh’s officials. But as I worked for him, I felt God’s presence with me in everything that I did. God helped me with my tasks, and helped me to succeed in all of them. Then things started looking up. Potiphar took notice of my hard work, and he began to favor me. He eventually put me in charge of his household and every single thing that he owned. Potiphar trusted me so much with my responsibilities that he did not care about anything except for the food that I ate.

The whole city of Jerusalem was suffering, but Jeremiah had faith in God. Sorrow is not the end of the sins. God is kind and he would not allow his children to suffer all the time. Jeremiah’s faithfulness leads the reader to the theme of Lamentations, which is that sins happens sometimes, however, God always brings hope to people when they are desperate. As long as people return to God with regrets of what they have done to confess their sins, worship God humbly with faith and love, God is always with his children and gives them love and forgiveness.…

Even in the midst of shock and disbelief they needed a visible reminder of God’s presence. There were no words to fix or even begin to explain the horror of their grief but my mere presence helped to point them to God’s never-failing love and presence in the midst of the worst day of their lives. When I returned home from that emotionally and spiritually exhausting visit, I immediately walked the prayer labyrinth in my backyard. As I walked and foolishly prayed for the “right words to say”. God reminded me (with a fat raindrop to the top of my head) that I was not alone, the family was not alone; God was present with us in the tears, grief and the subsequent anger and doubt after a loss of a young life filled with so much potential.…

“I soon forgot about him. I began to think of myself again” (Wiesel, 86). This quote is the epitome of the topic of survival, and more importantly, self-preservation in Night. Elie Wiesel uses characters such as Eliezer Wiesel and Rabbi Eliahou to show just how important it was to keep yourself alive during the Holocaust. Father Emil Kapaun is an inspiring person that critically affected many people’s lives during the Korean War and today. When selecting our topic that represents this year’s theme, we knew we wanted someone who fought for themselves and the well-being of others through the good of their own heart. While researching several topics, we came across Father Emil Kapaun’s name and were personally moved by his story, since he was from our own state of Kansas. Kapaun did not only sacrifice his life for others, but continually gave people hope, back home in Kansas and across the seas with the army, thereby significantly impacting the people around him. Through his acts of valor both as a chaplain and a prisoner during the Korean War, Father Emil Kapaun took a stand by saving many lives among his fellow soldiers and speaking out against his captors, thereby inspiring hope in a hopeless situation.…

Heart-aking thoughts here I had about my poor Children, who were scattered up and down amongst the wild Beasts of the Forest : my head was light and dizzy (either through hunger, or hard lodging, or trouble, or all together) my knees feeble, my body raw by sitting double night and day, that I cannot express to the man the affliction that lay upon my spirit, but the Lord helped me at that time to express it to himself. (13-14) In this passage from A True History of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, Rowlandson briefly expresses her concerns for her children who are, like herself, being held in captivity by local tribes of Native Americans. She than proceeds to turn attention back onto herself, something that occurs numerous times…

A person’s body is what makes them who they are. Everyone is unique due to a physical trait they have. Even though everyone has a different opinion about what his or her perfect body would be, changing one’s physical features would take away from the uniqueness and specialty of that specific individual. I personally would never even think about getting plastic surgery for myself, because I really do not see any point of changing the way God created you, just so you become content with changing a part of your physical appearance. Whenever I look at myself, I don’t see someone who is too tall, hairy or ugly one bit.…
