I accepted Jesus as my Savior on January 19th on a Sunday morning 12 years ago with my Mom after I had a fight with Riley. I prayed aloud confessing that I was a sinner who wanted to love Jesus and follow Him the rest of my life. The benefit of being a middle son has helped me spiritually- I have had an older brother who leads by example and a younger one who I mentor. And my Dad continues to teach us the importance of public and private prayer and living a life of integrity and purpose. Both my parents attended SBC as has my older brother Riley. The first verse I ever learned as a boy was, “How can a young man keep his way pure – by keeping it according to Thy Word.” I am committed to abstaining …show more content…
My parents required me to write a 5 page essay on the meaning and intention of a godly relationship based on Scripture before I began. This has helped me to lead and date in a meaningful way. To summarize briefly I wrote the following words to her. A proper Christian relationship should be filled with truth, integrity, respect, and honour to God and to you, and trust should be evident and significant between us. Integrity should also define our relationship. Adherence to moral principles, honesty, soundness, unity, and wholeness are all parts of integrity and should be our goal in a healthy and true relationship. Our relationship should also be respectful. All too often, respect is something missing in relationships, and instead selfishness is in its place. I know that entering into a relationship with you means I am putting my heart on the line, and yours as well, but I know that a heart that doesn’t get used or tested, will not stand as strong in the face of sadness as one that has been in a place where it can be broken. I would never intend to hurt you, and I don’t enjoy writing about potential heartbreak, but it is important that you know that I will always, always, always be respectful and kind because you are first off my friend, sister in Christ, and whatever comes in addition. It is possible that relationships can come and go, but our families are here for life. So it is important that our family stays close to us as we develop relationships with each other. I want any relationship that I enter to be Christ-centered. I believe that Christ is in every aspect of my life, and when I start dating you, I want Him centered there as well. I want to model our relationship on God’s Word. A good illustration is that a relationship is like a triangle. You and I are the bottom corners and God is at the top. The closer we get to each other, the closer we get to Jesus. Amos 3:3
