Narrative Essay On The Church

My friends, Sean and William, invited me Bethel AME Church and this is where everything merged for me, education and God. I remember Rev. Adam J Richardson at the time preach, “Some Time You Fail.” The essences of the sermon is that you think you may be losing at life, nevertheless one day you will realize that you are winning. This sermon spoke to me because I felt like I was failing at life and yet deeply within I knew I was winning I just needed to keep fighting. While in undergraduate, I started attending Bethel AME Church. I was amazed I could participate in the collegiate ministry and the church without being a member. It was during my last year of undergraduate, 1995 that I knew that God was calling me to care for people; I did not talk to anyone regarding my call. It was during this time that four of the active members of the collegiate ministry accepted their calls into ministry. I question …show more content…
I visited the sick, held business meetings, prepared sermons. However, it seemed that everything I did was wrong. “I didn’t preach long enough…I wouldn’t let anyone talk in the meetings…I was running members away…I didn’t have the authority to call or cancel a meeting.” Trust me those were some of the nicer comments I heard. Members stop coming to business meetings. People would talk during sermons. The children stop listening to me. What did I do wrong? I have never failed at anything in my life. I reached out to the presiding elder and the lead pastor and I did everything they said and nothing worked. What was happening? What to do? Lord I need your help was my nightly, morning, and evening prayers. During the summer of 2005 a steward came and told me pastor they are having problems with your gender. I told the steward, “I would not be at a church if I did not believe that God had called me to do pastor.” I knew at that moment that I was called to

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…

Christianity is the most popular religion in America, and shortly after that is Mormonism. These two religions are both grounded in knowing who Jesus is, and the basic fundamentals of the Bible. Although both of these religions claim to be Christians or a form of Christian, Mormons definitely have their own take on how things happened and what they think to be true. I grew up learning a tremendous amount about both of these. I am a grounded Christian believer, with a very broadened knowledge on Mormonism.…

For my pastoral interview, I choose to interview the Senior Pastor of Huntington Central Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Jacque Parlato. I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life. She informed me that she was born and raised in Santiago California, to parents that she described as people who didn’t have everything put together.…
