Narrative Essay On The Church

My friends, Sean and William, invited me Bethel AME Church and this is where everything merged for me, education and God. I remember Rev. Adam J Richardson at the time preach, “Some Time You Fail.” The essences of the sermon is that you think you may be losing at life, nevertheless one day you will realize that you are winning. This sermon spoke to me because I felt like I was failing at life and yet deeply within I knew I was winning I just needed to keep fighting. While in undergraduate, I started attending Bethel AME Church. I was amazed I could participate in the collegiate ministry and the church without being a member. It was during my last year of undergraduate, 1995 that I knew that God was calling me to care for people; I did not talk to anyone regarding my call. I visited the sick, held business meetings, prepared sermons. However, it seemed that everything I did was wrong. “I didn’t preach long enough…I wouldn’t let anyone talk in the meetings…I was running members away…I didn’t have the authority to call or cancel a meeting.” Trust me those were some of the nicer comments I heard. Members stop coming to business meetings. People would talk during sermons. The children stop listening to me. What did I do wrong? I have never failed at anything in my life.
