A Speech On Prescription Drugs

Improved Essays
When creating any type of media it is important to learn about your audience and what they will appeal to best. Different topics will have various audiences, but my topic is focused on prescription drugs. I chose to focus my audience on people getting out of rehab. Before I start working on project 4 I need to learn about my audience. I would presume my audience knows at least a little information on prescription drugs, since they are getting out of rehab for these types of drugs. By learning about my audience I will be able to more effectively persuade and inform them on prescription drug abuse.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse 60% of individuals being admitted into drug rehab are White around the age of 25-50 (“DrugFacts”). While considering my audience has a big age range, I felt a calendar would be a good source of media that would appeal to my audience, since calendars are used by people of all ages. My idea behind a calendar is that it could be given to people that are getting out of rehab. Since calendars are used daily, its would be would be a constant reminder to the patients getting out of rehab about how bad prescription drugs are for them. Using an effective type of media that would appeal to my audience is important since I am trying to persuade as much of my audience as I can. In 2008, over 1 million people were admitted into a rehab center for drug abuse (“DrugFacts”). From this statistics, I can see that I have a big audience to consider

The documentary titled “Pleasure Unwoven: A Personal Journey About Addiction” was an interesting look at the theories behind addiction that classify addiction as a disease and the previous theories that discredited addiction as a disease. One part of the documentary that I learned the most from was the part that discussed the “choice argument” for addiction. Another part of the documentary that I learned a lot from was their discussion of the biological aspect of addiction and addictions effect on a human’s midbrain. Overall, I found this documentary very informative and can see myself utilizing the information I learned in my future career path.…

Anti-drug public service announcements have used many different methods of achieving their goal. Many of these ads are intended to make people scared of drugs, however, I believe no PSAs have been as scary as the ads from the Montana Meth Project. One such commercial, entitled Jessica, features multiple settings with a voiceover telling a story of a girl and her experiences in each place.…

When people think of drug abuse in America they usually think of a heroin addict stabbing a needle into their arm, but Americans often tend to overlook the opioid epidemic’s place in suburban atmospheres. St. Louis County ranks nearly four times the national average for heroin related deaths in the country, and at the center of this is Kirkwood. From the outside Kirkwood looks to be the perfectly stereotypical suburban neighborhood. However, this is not necessarily true. Kirkwood High School has received national media coverage due to multiple heroin related deaths in the high school since 2014.…
