Throughout history, time travel has been seen as an idea of the future, but that we are far along from it. In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, it made that idea possible. Taking place in 2055, the idea of time travel has long been mastered and is now used to recreational purposes. In this situation, it was being used for hunting extinct animals from the past, without messing up the future or the past in anyway. They were very diligent when this operation took place to make sure nothing was altered or major consequences would have taken place. While reading the short story, it has been taken into further examination by looking at the morality of the story. Overall, the message that simple actions can have great effects is prominent throughout this story.
In general, characters throughout the story have foreseen problems that could take place during the mission into the past. One of these instances is seen when the man behind the desk tells everyone the rules of going on the Safari. The man states, “If you disobey instructions, there's a stiff penalty of another ten thousand dollars, plus possible government action, on your return.” In

For example, when the group returns from the trip to the past, Eckels notices things that were once minor things change. These would include the spelling of the sign and the president at that time. This was all caused by Eckels stepping on the butterfly in the past. In the story, it elaborates the realization that small things can have great effects. This can be seen when the narrator states, “Eckels felt himself fall into a chair. He fumbled crazily at the thick slime on his boots. He held up a clod of dirt, trembling, "No, it can't be. Not a little thing like that. No!" Embedded in the mud, glistening green and gold and black, was a butterfly, very beautiful and very dead.” This shows the

In Chapter One of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor depicts Little Man as a boy who wants to be clean, representing his wanted equality and fairness in society. The author shows us Little Man’s desire for equality through his actions, an example being the rejection of the dirty book he was given on the first day of school. Little Man expresses his hatred for the insult to his race in his tattered book and stomps on it, refusing to use it “his face clouded, changing from sulky acceptance to puzzlement.. [he flung] the book onto the floor and [stomped] madly on it” (ROTHMC 24). The teacher, Miss Crocker, does not agree with his behavior, though it was ethical, which leads to him getting a whipping.…

In “The Sound of Thunder”Radbury uses negative diction to convey an intense tone to the readers, to show the intensity of the dinosaurs actions. The author describes the Tyrannosaurus by using words like, “terrible” to describe his scream and “Monster” to describe his actions. The diction was used to describe how vicious the Tyrannosaurus was, and to create an intensity in the scene. The diction made a lot of difference by making the Tyrannosaurus sound much more terrifying; similarly Eckels killing a butterfly made a huge difference to his world. Using words like “beast” to describe his features made the scene more intense.…

In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, the setting affects the story and characters in various different ways . As I was reading through the novel, I noticed so many pieces of text related to “separate but equal”, and the terrible acts that were done to black citizens in the South as a result of racism, and very deep racial feelings towards African-Americans. For example, in the text on page. 15, it states, “Sitting so close to the desk, I could see that the covers of the books, a motley red, were badly worn and the grey edges of the book were marred by pencils, crayons and ink. My anticipation at having my own book dubbed to a sinking disappointment.”.…

In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” there was a lot of foreshadow used. It seems like the most used one of all was the exaggerated importance of staying on the path and not doing anything that could possibly change the future. Travis used the phrase “stay on the path” at least four times in the beginning of the story. This is a huge hint that Eckels would possibly go off the path later on in the story, and also because he seemed to be unconvinced that it was a big deal saying things like “So what” and “Why not.”…
