I personally never really thought that white privilege was something that was true but after reading the story called, White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack I have a better understanding of what some of these privileges are and how they could make some people feel who do not have them. I also started to realize that these privileges not only caused emotional distress for the people but also prevented them from possibly being successful. An example of a privilege that may effect people who don't have it is one that causes people from the wealthier area to receive more money for their school compared to those who don't live in these wealthy areas. This dose not only effect the student by effecting the quality of their education but also by making it harder for these students to get a quality education where they can get out from under the poverty …show more content…
Spencer and the story White Privileges: Unpacking The Invisible Knapsack was written by Peggy McIntosh. As the reader you were able to better understand what oppression was and what it had to do with privileges when it came to different groups of people. As the paper went on you learned about the programs that are available for those who needed the support. Towards the end of the paper you were able to see my thoughts of groups having certain privileges and how I felt that it effect others. Finally I was even able to share my ideas of how these privileges were still beneficial to those who they did not apply
