About three years later, Hyung-pil was almost a full grown man. Hyung-pil still always asked himself Who is my real father? Min came home that day feeling very ill and he weakly whispered to Hyung-pil, “Hyung-pil, for these last three years, you have grown into something more than I could’ve expected… I… I… I love you.” And with that, Min let out his final breath. Hyung-pil looked down at his limp corpse and whimpered out, “I love you too.”

One month later, Ajima fell ill and Hyung-pil didn’t know what to do, so he went into Ch’ulp’o to find help. The first person he went to was the last person he wanted to go to, but Hyung-pil knew he could help. That person was Kang. Hyung-pil went to Kang’s house to check if

Hyung-pil felt as if he was about to burst into tears. He shouted at Kang angrily, "I never wanted to be with them! They don't know what I've been through, and neither do you!"

After that final scream, Kang just looked at him storm off and wondered if he would ever want to see him again.

Hyung-pil knew that he didn’t want to see him again, so he went to Emissary Kim for help. Emissary Kim reluctantly got his best doctor to work on Ajima and she felt better in less than two weeks. Hyung-pil now always tried to avoid Kang when he passed him in public, and they never spoke a word to each other
